3/4 C. brown sugar
1/4 C. dry cocoa

Pour 1-3/4 C. hot water over entire batter. Bake in moderate oven (350°) 40-45 minutes.
Recipe can be doubled -- use 9x13 pan.
Whipped cream or Cool Whip can be used when served. (or ice cream). We like it plain most of the time.
Grandma Sackett's handwritten note: I have made this for 47 years. It forms its own sauce under the cake.

I am following in Grandma Sackett's footsteps. This is my favorite dessert and I will make it until the day I die.
I use oil instead of the shortening.
